Story
The human population has tripled in the last 70 years and is set to reach 10 billion by 2060. The number of wild animals which was once prolific, has halved. The planet is one degree warmer – which may not sound like much, but it is a speed of change that exceeds any in the last 10,000 years.
We just need a new perspective – which is, try not to take out from the sea and the land more than the Earth can recover. Anything that cannot be done forever, is not sustainable. We need to stop being apart from nature and start becoming apart of nature. If we don't then we face mass extinction.
It’s not too late to change things, or at least to ameliorate them. The science is all there, the technology is there, the political will ought to be there, but the difficulty is in making people care. So this is why I am donating my birthday every year to asking people to care.
If we make the right decision at this critical moment we can save our planet’s ecosystem, it’s extraordinary biodiversity, and all of its marvellous inhabitants.
What happens next is up to every one of us.
How we breed
How we eat
How we invest
How we warm our homes
How we manage waste
How we take things for granted
