Help Jason and Penny raise money for charity
On November 14th Jason Dawe and Penny Mallory are taking part in the 2006 Beaujolais Run. The pair will be driving a Jaguar XKR more than 500 miles through France to raise money for the Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital and the Downs Syndrome Association.
Thirty teams are taking cars in this year’s event, which kicks off at Goodwood with racing legend Damon Hill waving the competitors off on their way to the Channel Tunnel.
The next part of the challenge tests the team’s map reading skills as they find their way to an unknown location in the heart of . The team which uses the shortest route wins as the event is all about navigation rather than speed. Jason said: “In theory the journey should be about 550 miles although the last time I competed I racked up nearly 800. I am hoping with Mallory in the car there will be fewer wrong turns and a top ten place may be within our reach!”
Penny said: “It should be a really fun experience but the most important thing is to raise money for these two wonderful and worthwhile charities.”
After the mystery destination has been reached the teams will catch a few hours sleep before heading on through with the aim of reaching the town of Macon for the uncorking of the Beaujolais Nouveau at midnight.
