Story

Dear All,

As you may or may not know last year in September I cycled from London to Paris (300 + miles) over 4 days to raise money for Breast Cancer Care. This year on 5th September I have decided to go the extra mile (in fact 625 miles in total over 8 days) and cycle from London to Paris and then on to Geneva .

I have decided this year to raise money for the 'Special Care Baby Unit' at Southend Hospital (SCBU). As a very proud parent, I have seen first hand of excellent care and support that SCBU provides, from small measures to life changing/saving operations, their work is truely remarkable and any extra support they receives enables them to have the latest equipment and training, which in many cases is life saving.

Myself and three friends Mick, Gary and Martyn (Team SOS) are collectively hoping to raise a total of £5000 for this very special unit.

It is hoped that with your help we can reach our target and you too can help us make a difference...!!

In this current economic climate I know spare cash is hard to find but whatever you can spare for this great and essential unit will be greatly received.

All the best and Thank you..!!

Southend Hospital’s Special Care Baby Unit

(also known as The Hugo Liebeschuetz neonatal unit)

The Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) is an intensive care unit specialising in the care of ill or premature newborn babies. Audits have shown that Southend Hospital’s SCBU has survival rates consistently above the national average.

However, with the NHS facing the biggest financial challenge in its history, Southend Hospital’s SCBU rely on charitable giving by patients, the local community and businesses to ensure that, even in these tough times, they can still provide state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to ensure the best possible standards for their young patients and their families.

The SCBU provides intensive care, such as respiratory support and complex nursing procedures, as well as a special care nursery for babies who no longer require intensive care, but may still require continuous monitoring of vital signsThanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
