Story
I am running the 2023 Royal Parks Half Marathon and raising money for an amazing charity. Please support me by donating to this brilliant cause.
My husband Harrison was diagnosed with Tongue cancer in May 2022. He underwent huge reconstruction surgery to remove two tumours which equates to 50% of his tongue, as well as removal of his lymph nodes. H continued the gruelling treatment with 6 weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy in September 2022. After many weeks in hospital Harrison was learning to speak and eat again towards the end of the year.
After a ‘clear’ scan at the end of 2022 we looked forward to a brighter year, but just a few weeks later Harrison was suffering from severe neck pain. After months of tests, appointments and uncertainty a secondary cancer had developed in his neck. Harrison has undergone 5 types of chemotherapy which have all proven unsuccessful. Immunotherapy is the last chance for H and has a 5% chance of controlling the disease. Harrison’s cancer also spread into his lung.
Harrison’s cancer is incurable and is currently processing how to live the rest of his life with just weeks or months to live.
Harrison will leave behind his two year old daughter, Kennedy, as well as many friends and family.
A half marathon is a massive challenge for me, and something that Harrison has always encouraged me to do so the timing felt right. Wish me luck.
UPDATE… Harrison is now receiving care are Fair Havens Hospice in Southend. He has been able to spend a little more time with Kennedy.
Harrison sadly passed away on Monday 31st July 2023. He fought until the very end. He has made me the proudest wife and his passing has brought deep sadness to my life. H has appreciated all the support he has received, and all the support I have received as well.
