My name is
Jasmine I am 12 year's old and live in Ordsall in Salford in Manchester, I
live here with my family and have found the past few month's very different than
what I and we are use to or have been use to in my young lifetime with this is mind I
decided to look at myself during this lockdown and what I could do to help in
any way I can, Im 12 I mean what can I do right ?, Wrong there is lots I have
been able to do within the remit on the current rules and guidelines under
lockdown, I will check on some of my elderly neighbors whilst maintain social
distancing, We have some elderly people here on the estate and may not have family of friends
to check in on them and that’s what I can help with, I get my
daily exercise every day of 1 hour walking sometimes this will be with my baby
brother or my mum but whilst I do my walking to stay fit and healthy in body
and mind I choose to do something else I take carrier bags out with me and on
my route I pick up any litter I come across to help clean up my streets and
neighborhood some days I pick up 4 carrier bags worth of rubbish that over time
has built up but I am walking that way anyhow so why not do my bit, I use it as
a form of exercise I can bend down and pick it up and do a star jump on the way
up or lunge on the way down or a press up or the way up so by doing this is
helping me and my community to try and make things better in lockdown, If as
many as people as able did thigs like this we could make a big difference in our local
areas, I set off on a different route each day and have been doing this for the
last 3 weeks and the  waste I have collected is massive, I have to use the
local council bins on the streets to dispose of the rubbish as my bins are full threw this, I designed the
attached poster and am lucky at home I have a printer so have printed some out
and I put them up in the areas I go into on lampposts or railings, You never know it might
make people things about what we are throwing on the floors and we can all do
our bit even under lockdown conditions to stay safe and healthy whilst
helping our community at the same time, Even my baby brother at age 2 is now
helping me on our exercise walks to pick up waste. On my
newest route witch I walk on 3 times a week I see a lot of family’s taking in
there daily exercise on Salford Quays feeding the ducks and it is good to see
that family’s are exercising together and being brought together in this time
of great loss for many family’s threw Covid 19, The waste I see in the water and
floating around is really devastating and as you can see in the attached pics
is having a massive effect on the local community and population of our wildlife
as I have come across in the past week 5 dead swans/birds just floating there
in the water and with the local watersports center closed and most of the
council of on furlough I feel it is up to me and us all to help as I can whilst doing my
daily exercise I will try pick up as much of the waste out of the water as I
can using a brush and litter picker as this is family area we all love and it is not
looking its best especially with dead floating wildlife that can have a mental
effect on young people like myself and even younger children who see them, I
have picked out 3 so far and done my best using a mask and gloves and an apron
as PPE to protect myself as PPE is vital in our WWV with everything including
Covid 19 as of course I do not know what they died of but we all live on the
earth and in the area and with all the waste in there I would thing they may
have died threw eating rubbish and waste and this breaks my heart as a 12 year
old so by me doing my bit even if this saves 1 wildlife it will be worth it, My
generation may never go threw anything like Lockdown ever again and the learning
from how we behaved in lockdown and the extra steps we took to protect each
other and our planet we can use to teach and tell our kids and grandkids in the
years to come of how family’s put there phones down and there computer pads down and
spent good quality family time together even in times of hardship and emotional
loss that we are in WWV as I call it means we can all come together even threw
difficult times and great loss. Covid 19 has stated taking the lives of people my age and younger so this has really Brough home
the issue the World faces, I will keep
pushing forward with my daily exercise and doing what I can and hope to raise
awareness all over the city that even on lockdown and the conditions in place
we can still use initiative and combine exercise with helping the planet as the
same time I intend to set up a just giving page and donate the
income to the NHS to help with there fight against covid 19, and if
everyone just gave 1p 5p 10p etc we coud make a big difference to help as well
as doing our bit everywhere so hopefully if you see my signs this may be a
reminder for just to have a look around you and use exercise and pick up litter
at the same time so we can make our planet a better place after covid 19. Look what Captain Tom has been able to do he is amazing and his generation is inspiring mine.

My aim is
to pick up 500 pieces of rubbish each day in my 1 hour exercise and combine the
2 I want in total to pickup 50000 pieces of rubbish.
