Story
On the 10th September I will be completing the Great North Run on behalf of North West Cancer Research, alongside my dad.
This was an extremely impulsive decision I made without very much thought, simply because I thought it would be fun. Unfortunately, I failed to remember my personal circumstances: software engineers are not known for their physical fitness and athleticism.
I have only once before taken part in a 5km race, and the only long distance running I have ever taken seriously was, like everyone, during those few weeks in the first lockdown when we all thought we'd do something productive with all that free time.
I appreciate times are hard for everybody at the moment, so it would mean a lot to me if you could consider donating anything at all towards this good cause. Every little helps motivate me to get moving and keep running every day!
Why cancer?
Cancer rates are worryingly on the rise due to a number of factors, and these diseases ruin lives. Despite the incidence rate of cancer increasing, because of the tireless and vital work of science, many cancers are now much more manageable. It is highly unlikely that there is one single cure for all cancers, so a continued concerted effort is needed to research treatments for them one by one.
