Story
#Jaqui
Unfortunately in July this year (2014) our Mum; Jaqui, was diagnosed with Myeloma. This was a massive shock to everyone but especially to all her close family and friends that would never have thought that our Mum would ever have anything wrong with her. But as all strong families and networks do, we got on a mission to help her. First of all it started with support, emotionally and physically as the first few months she was suffering massively because of a her several broken ribs and crushed vertebrae (a side effect of having Myeloma). But after a quick operation and some cement in the spine the crushed vertebrae was on the mend and our Mum was back to her self, in less pain and able to do normal things and concentrate on being strong for the chemotherapy.
We are now going into the 4th round of chemo (09.10.2014) and after the 2nd round review of free light chains going from 600 to 400 we are positive this is going to have reduced again in time for her stem cell transplant in January 2015.
During this crazy 4/5 months Myeloma UK have been a place where Jaqui, our step dad Dave, and all our other family members have found some great information and are really positive that the money they raise will help towards finding a cure in the near future. St Luke's Hospice Sheffield, Hallamshire Hospital Sheffield and Cavendish House have also been a great help to our Mum and the rest of the family.
Our Mum has still got a long way to go but we are positive that in July 2015 she will be in remission and will end up being the forefront of all the fundraising for Myeloma UK, to help find a cure for Myeloma to help our Mum and her family, as well as all the other families which have been hit by Myeloma in the UK.
We have set our fundraising target at £25,000. At the moment this seems a long way to go but we have so many amazing ideas and lots of amazing friends and family to be there and help us smash this target - To put this into perspective this figure is only 10% of the cost of a stem cell transplant.
The fundraising starts on the 11th October 2014 with our walk to March on Cancer. Which takes place around Sheffield city centre - We have over 30 people in our team #Jaqui so hoping to raise a lot to start our fundraising efforts with a bang.
Thank you in advance for all your donations we all really appreciate it.
