Story
Hi! I've decided to raise money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation for my fourth (and most likely final!) Great North Run.
Sir Bobby launched this cancer charity in 2008 to focus on the early detection and treatment of cancer. The charity, which relies solely on donations, directly benefits cancer patients in the north east and Cumbria and contributes significantly to international efforts against the disease.
I ran for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation last year and was surprised at how few other runners did too; just Tony the Fridge and around 100 others - in a race which 55000 entered.
This charity remains very close to my heart because my gramps, the head of clan McLean and the man who brought me up, died from this awful disease last year. The cancer was only diagnosed on the day that he died when it had reached the most advanced stage. By running for this charity I hope to help those who are diagnosed earlier.
Those who know me well know how much my gramps meant to me and how hard the last year has been for all of the McLean family. Keeping active and running has really helped me through the tough times - and I'm determined to beat last year's pb of 2hours 8mins! Cousin Sophie has even been encouraged to run her first GNR - she is raising money for the Freeman Hospital's Critical Care Unit where our gramps spent his last few days.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, I know many of you have supported me before but it is always very much appreciated xx
