Story

Well........................I made it
5h 05 - managed to stick to exactly the same pace all the way - all went to plan - took the showers - all the fluids/gels etc...... Saw all the family 4 times!! Stopped for hugs, photos and a cookie with them!
I couldn't believ how fantastic I felt most of the way round - up to about 22 miles - then my calves and achilles started to hurt.
Then ran the last mile a bit quicker (had to overtake the camel and the giant pink nurse) - got my medal and then vomited at the St John's ambulance tent!!! Felt really sick for an hour.......so the finish was the worst bit.
The crowds were out of this world - which is why I chose London in the first place.

All in all a fabulous day (a bit hot).......I will NEVER be putting myself through that again.
I want to thank everybody who sponsored me and who bought raffle tickets or donated prizes. What fantastic support I had - THANK YOU xxxxxx

24th March 2011

39494  is my number !!!  I hope it's not my position at the finish.

Getting really excited now. The sun is out, so training is 'nearly' bearable.

24 days to go..........

12th March 2011

Only 36 days and it will be all be over ! Yeahhhhhhhhhhhh

I have never had so many weird pains in different parts of my legs and feet.

I need a full time sports masseuse living with me - any offers ???

20th Feb - 56 days to go...........

8 WEEKS - ARGHHHHH !

Getting nervous now - time is going far too quickly. Help......

7th February - 69 days to go........

Nice article in the local newspaper - even got a photo of Verity on the front page of one edition.

Overdid it last week - feel a bit rubbish. Cough, cold and ears hurt! Forced to take a few days off running...........OMG how will I cope?!

1st February 2011

75 days to go ! Arghhhhhhhhhhh !                                                    Will I ever get there ? 13.3 miles /21.3km on Saturday - longest yet - felt OK but cold. The wind on the seafront is never blowing the right way.

All those hours outside by myself gives me loads of time to think of new ideas for fundraising though.

The local paper are doing a write up this week about Verity

25th January 2011

This is serious !!  I am running up and down hills, doing ‘fartlek’ sprint training, then long boring runs at the weekend, and a programme of leg strengthening sessions at the gym (definitely easier on the legs than the running!) I am so serious that I seem to be constantly wearing spray on lycra clothing and a fluorescent jacket AND am now taking Body Fuel Energy Gels on my long runs, and they taste disgusting! That's dedication for you..........

16th January 2011

Wow ! I even surprised myself - 12.2 miles/19.65 km today - The furthest I have EVER done. I think the gym sessions and a few hill runs are helping with strength and I've now started taking some energy gel during the run.

I'm still a bit scared about what 26 miles will actually feel like.

December 2010

WHAT HAVE I DONE ?? !!

After my very difficult 10km run this morning, I am wondering how on earth I will make the 26.2 miles on 17th April. Mad, mad, mad.............

However, I have my little niece - Verity Mepham to inspire me.

Verity is 9 and was diagnosed in January with Gaucher disease. Gaucher disease is a genetically inherited, enzyme deficiency disorder - see : www.gaucher.org.uk

Verity has been in and out of Great Ormond Street Hospital  for tests, scans, infusions and a small operation and has taken it all her stride. For such a little girl, she has been incredible.

She is now receiving fortnightly enzyme replacement therapy which she needs to continue for the rest of her life.

The Gauchers Association provides support for patients and families, keeping them up to date with information on the disease as well as  holding workshops and conferences. They support much needed research into the disease. They also encourage the availability of treatments for patients. .

I would really like to help the association by raising money for my marathon run.

Thank you for giving what you can.
