Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
In early April our accountant Janine, who had been with the company for over 19 years, died of throat cancer at 47 years old. Janine was diagnosed in July 2014 and started treatment in August, which she dealt with in her own cheerful and upbeat manner; never complaining or allowing herself to be disheartened.
Tragically, after returning to work just after Christmas she left the office one day in February and went from home to hospital as she was feeling poorly. Janine didn't return to work and spent the remaining weeks of her life at Wheatfields; a hospice owned by the Sue Ryder Group.
It is difficult to overestimate the lovely person Janine was. In addition to being a brilliant colleague she brought a cheer to the office that will be impossible to replace.
I cannot begin to explain how well Wheatfields cared for her and her family during her final weeks. It is difficult to understand how these organizations can be left to fund themselves with no government subsidy. However they do and they do so with great grace and compassion.
In an attempt to remember Janine and give something back to the people who cared for her a number of colleagues have decided to cycle the Leeds - Dales - Harrogate 190km/ 118 miles stage of last year's Tour De France in October of this year.
We are all complete novices to cycling, so undertaking this stage will be very challenging to us all, especially me given the hills!
We feel that our cause is an extremely worthy one and that what we are attempting is appropriately gruelling enough for you to hopefully consider sponsoring us.
