Story
In June 2009 our lives changed for the worse as we were told the devastating news that our 3 year old son Elliot had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL). This devastating news was the beginning of a journey of trauma, fear helplessness and pain. To be told your child has cancer is simply horrific and the shock of the unknown was terrifying.
As a parent I cannot put into words how hearing those spine chilling words can make you feel. Elliot was immediately taken into theatre to have a bone marrow check and chemotheraphy began. The next year of Elliot's life he became extremely sick, lost all his hair, was unable to walk and was put through an intensive protocol of chemotherapy. Elliot had to have a central line fitted into his chest which he still, nearly three years on finds very invasive.
The journey that Elliot has endured over the past three years has taken him through a roller coaster of emotions. Elliot's treatment lasts for just over three years which has involved him having numerous uncomfortable procedures, lumbar punctures and daily chemotheraphy.
Hopefully in August 2012 his treatment will finish and he will return to being a fit and healthy normal seven year old and be able to put this horrible chapter of his life behind him.
On Saturday 19th May, Elliot is running the 1.5k Manchester Mini run and on Sunday 20th May I am running Great Manchester 10k. Elliot decided that we should both run to help other children and families who have had to deal with childhood cancer.
