Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page
In March 2009 I'm trekking 125km in 5 days over 2000m peaks, ravines and rivers in humid, rainy and bug-infested jungle conditions in the Serra da Bocaina area of Brazil to raise money for BT / UNICEF Inspiring Young Minds.
This money will help thousands of Brazilian children in the most deprived areas of Sao Paulo, Recife and Rio de Janiero, where poverty, unemployment, crime, drugs, violence, murder, child labour and AIDS/HIV are all part of daily life.
Please sponsor me !
BT is providing IT equipment - Our trekking money will provide Sports Equipment to motivate the children to attend school and to learn through play. £55 will buy a soccer net, £35 = one volleyball net, £15 = one racket and £12 = one soccer kit.
As I'm paying my travel & trekking costs, every £ you donate will go directly to the children of Brazil.
Why Brazil? Because........ 50 million Brazilians live in poverty? (almost as many as the whole population of the UK!): 75% of youngsters in Brazil live below the poverty line: Children only go to school for 4 hours per day: These Brazilian children will be responsible for managing one of the key resources for our planet's future - its rainforest..
UNICEF's Programme in Brazil helps children develop stronger communication, negotiation, responsibility and confidence; these are critical skills to combat violence and drug use and break the cycle of poverty.
You can read more about the programme on http://www.justgiving.com/inspiring-young-minds
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Unicef UK BT gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please be inspired and sponsor me I really appreciate the support and your words of encouragement !
