Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
As you know we are raising funds for the Alzheimers Society. It is a charity close to our hearts after Karen lost her dad to the illness a year ago. We have self funded a Charity Challenge and will travel to a region in the northern Himalayas. The trek starts in Dharamsala in the Kangra valley. We will be walking for five days up to an altitude of 3500metres with 2-3 ascents a day and between 16-21kms a day, we will be camping overnight.....this seemed like a good idea at the time....... We have started training ...and are walking whenever we can. Janet has started running altho she has been too late for the 2012 Olympics. Karen is cycling and has had several encounters with roadside hedgrows!
Alzheimers is the most common cause of Dementia and 1:3 of us will suffer from Dementia. In the UK there are thought to be 17,000 people under 65yrs suffering (this is thought to be underestimated).Alzheimers is a progressive disease affecting the brain which means over time more parts of the brain are damaged leading to a worsening of symptoms.
We have had cake sales, lunches, bag packs and a car boot sale to begin to raise funds. A donation from you will help to raise funds further to enable research into the cause, cure and prevention and help support sufferers and their familiy's.
