Story
My brother-in-law Geoff Sperling spent his last days at St Barnabas hospice. I expected the hospice to be a sad dismal place and was pleasantly surprised to find it a warm welcoming place with much laughter. St Barnabas is run by very professional dedicated people who go far beyond their role, Being there mean't that Geoff could keep his dignity and spent many hours with his loved ones without them having to do many tasks for Geoff which he would have hated. He also got to ask many questions which he needed answers to which would have been too painful to ask loved ones.
I was astounded to find that the hospice is funded from charitable donations and only 25% from the government.. The cost per year to fully fund this hospice is over £5 million!.
Geoff went into St Barnabas in December last year and unfortunately died on Christmas day. So this is still very raw to the Sperling family.
This is why at the age of 62 this grandmother is attempting to do a 25km walk in real terms just over 15 miles! To help raise valuable funds for this wonderful hospice.
