Story
Team Janet is made up of Janet Ireland the Information and Advice Officer, Amber, Janice, Charlotte, Matthew and Janet's Mum/Dad (counting them as one!) We are a team of Six. We usually do The Brain Charity annual sponsored walk together as a team , but due to Covid-19 that was not able to happen this year, so this is our alternative challenge.
Having been lockdown again for a month and at least 4 of the
team not able to go out of the house for that time, we are building up our fitness again and we aim to walk 60 miles between now and Christmas. We can’t do that individually – but working as a team we can crack it – together we are stronger is the motto! We each individually aim to walk/cycle/exercise bike one mile a day across the three weeks aiming for thus 10 miles each – times 6 = 60!
The Covid-19 pandemic has meant 2020 has been an unprecedented time for charities. Coronavirus has seen The Brain Charity forced to cancel multiple flagship fundraising events, including our annual Snow Ball. But at the same time, the charity has had a 70% rise in referrals this year due to the neurological complications of Covid-19, increased mental health issues and social isolation caused by social distancing and shielding and a bleak unemployment landscape due to the recession.More people with neurological conditions need help than ever before, so this December The Brain Charity needs your support for its Sixmas fundraising campaign. To mark the fact one in six people have a neurological condition, this December we would like you to sponsor our virtual/covid-safe event themed around the number six. We have pledged to raise at least £60 to help The Brain Charity achieve its target of at least £6,000 by December 31.
