Story
Will was 1 day old when we found out he was severely sight impaired, 3 months old when he was diagnosed with Encephalocraniocutaneous Lipomatosis (yeah, that’s really what it’s called!) and 9 months old when we he was diagnosed with epilepsy. Epilepsy has been by far his biggest battle and he has never had a seizure free day since that dreaded day in February 2015.
Will isn’t much of a walker, his balance isn’t great and he likes to challenge our balance too! However during lockdown we’ve taken the opportunity to try and increase his exercise tolerance a little bit more and get him to walk that little bit further - in the first week he was only able to manage about 100m before giving up, today we’re on 1,500 metres! It takes us a good 45mins to do it and most walks include a seizure or 2, but he gets there - I didn’t think I’d ever see the day to be honest.
So with that in mind, we’ve set him a little challenge for June - Will’s Marathon Month. Each day we’re going to aim to complete 1.5km with him equaling 45km (28miles) in 30 days. We wanted to share his little journey. Not only to spur us all on but to hopefully encourage others to push through and achieve something they never thought would be possible.
We’ve set up a JustGiving page for Wirral Hospital’s Covid-19 Support Appeal, the hospital which has offered so much support to our family over the last 6 years, if anyone wants to sponsor Will, but really we just want to set him a little goal.
We hope you enjoy following along xx
