Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm running the Brentwood Half Marathon to raise money for my friend's children, Emily (11) and Will (7), who have Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP). RP is an inherited disease of the eye that leads to loss of vision and blindness. Both Emily and Will were diagnosed with the condition last year and both already have problems with their colour vision and seeing in dim light or at night.
There are thousands of genes which could be responsible for RP and until January of this year only 10 had been identified – none of which would be a match for Emily or Will. However, thanks to part funding from the RP Fighting Blindness charity, Professor Graeme Black of Manchester University, has identified a further 105 new genes and we hope Emily and Will can be tested next year. Research is paramount to delay or stop Emily and Will’s vision loss, and the thousands of others like them.
All donations will go to RP Fighting Blindess to help fund this essential research.
