Transplant Sport is a charity that has helped me personally. I had a kidney transplant 6 years ago after going into kidney failure due to a genetic kidney disease. Having no close relative suitable as a donor I was placed on the waiting list  which relies on people making the selfless decision to  become an organ donor in the unfortunate event of their passing. 

I was encouraged by Transplant Sport to patriciate in the British Games in 2022 in swimming which is a sport I did as a teenager. This gave me a purpose to get back into pool and get fit , lose weight and generally improve my overall health which is so important in transplant patients. Having had a successful swim at the British Games I was honoured to be selected to present Great Britain in the World Transplant Games 2023 in Australia in April. #TEAMGB

It is very intimidating to be competing on the world stage with over 1000 athletics across all sports from 60 countries but I am doing this to not only honour my donor but to say thank to my donor's family who made that difficult decision. I am also participating to support everyone who is currently on the waiting list and those who will need to be in the future. 

Organ donation is currently opt-out in England but it is important that you have the conversation with your family because they will still be consulted at the time for a final decision.
