Well how did this idea come about ? Ian was 60 last year and during the previous year, thoughts on how to celebrate started to percolate up through the brain. Ian is an active chap so among his dreams are to kayak up around Greenland but he's also rekindling the cycling endeavours of his youth. Some friends in the neighbourhood did LEJOG. So, voila, that seemed to meet the bill. Ian also prefers to do things with me so it began to dawn that I would be doing it too. At the time it seemed like a great idea especially as it was a long way off - I had just had my second hip relaced and the physiotherapist recommended a years delay.
To raise funds for a couple of charities added meat to the bone. "The Kuanzia Trust" - whose focus is in Uganda and "New Day BG" who work in Bulgaria are both very small charities who work with the local people. You will find there is another page set up for the "New Day BG" charity.
AND now the start day is upon us - this Friday 17th May reaching John O'Groats on the Tuesday 4th June - our wedding anniversary is on the 5th June - what a way to celebrate. We hope to go to Orkney that day depending on the weather.
Ian is busy earning our keep and is home briefly mid week so we rendezvous at Exeter St.David's station on Friday where I join him on the London Penzance train at 14.08 ! with the bikes, aided by friend Andrea. That evening we're off to Lands End and returning to the YHA in Penzance for the night so we can set off in the right direction for JohnO'Groats.
That's all for now folks
