Trek to Petra · 4 November 2023 to 11 November 2023 ·

As part of their partnership with Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), this November MSMG are supporting CALM in their movement against suicide, the cause of death for 125 people every week in the UK, by hiking the Cambodian hills.

Story

Update 14th November

Delighted to say that the whole team completed the challenge and our fundraising total is over £53,000!

It was an incredible experience starting our trek in Siem Reap hiking in some pretty extreme heat through villages, hills, valleys, and dense forests through the historic landscapes of the Khmer Empire and Kulen Mountain. We had a glimpse of rural life and the warmest of welcomes from the locals. Our guides shared stories of Cambodia’s culture and history and their positive outlook motivated us through when the going got tough. We were photographed by the local police; well fed by the incredible support team; sweated a lot and supported each other through the trekking, heatstroke and blisters.

We finished in Angkor Wat where we shared a poignant moment reflecting on the purpose of the trip, those affecting by suicide and the amazing work of CALM.

Strava didn’t quite keep up with me but our trek totalled 92km.

Thanks for all the financial  support for CALM and to my dear friends and family for the weeks of training with me to take part in this challenge.

Update 1st November

Moneysupermarket Group have changed their challenge slightly, and have swapped the Jordan desert for the Cambodian hills. One thing that has stayed the same though - every single penny raised will help CALM to save lives.

It is still one team. It is still one goal. But there are a lot less camels :-)

Thank you everyone for the support !!

In November alongside colleagues from Moneysupermarket Group, I am supporting the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) who are taking a stand against suicide.

We will be trekking 75km over 5 days (for approximately 8 hours per day) through the heat of the desert into deep gorges and canyons crossing high ridges on routes only known to the local Bedouin.

The long days will be challenging but for those who know me well, the nights camping will be the hardest part of the challenge!

Sadly we all know people affected by suicide. 125 lives are lost every week to suicide and 75% of all UK suicides are male. CALM exists to change this by provoking conversation, running life-saving services, and bringing people together so they reject living miserably, get help when they need it and don't die by suicide.

In doing this challenge I will be thinking of George, and all those affected by suicide.

Any donation is very much appreciated.
