Story
Hello!
As you all know, I work for the Andrew Grene Foundation, and I am passionate about our work in Haiti. We have two amazing projects: our microfinance branch in the south and our high school in Cite Soleil, Port au Prince.
We work constantly to improve our facilities at both projects.
In 2017 we successfully relocated our microfinance branch, following the damage caused by Hurricane Matthew in October 2016 to our original branch. This new branch is a bigger, brighter space, with air conditioning and enough room for the training our clients need.
In 2017, we installed a fully functional computer suite at our high school, which includes 36 individual terminals, and high speed internet access. No mean feat in this deprived area. This has opened up a world of learning opportunities for our students, ensuring the education they are receiving is of the highest quality.
In 2018 we intend to build a sports court and recreational facility on an area of land we have managed to purchase, directly opposite the main entrance to the school. Physical education is important to our teenage students, and currently they are limited in their activities as we just do not have the space for them to play.
So to help raise the funds to make this project a reality, I will be running the "Holden Haiti Half" marathon around the streets of Port au Prince, on my birthday weekend in February.
I am asking that if you would normally buy me a birthday card or a gift, that instead, for this year, you make an equivalent donation to my fundraising effort. Every penny we raise will go directly to this project, and I want to make this a reality for our students. I love sport in all forms, and even though as I get older and slower, I know the positive effect that sport has on both my physical and mental well being, and I want our students to be able to have these same benefits.
As you see from the photos below, the weather here could not be more different to the weather I will be running the race in! So if you are able to support my efforts, I and our students will be very grateful.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to us.. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for our charity.
Thank you in advance, and I look forward to showing you my medal!
Jane :-)
