Story
Thanks for visiting our page. On Sunday 21 May, Jane, Ed and James will be doing their first Olympic distance triathlon in sunny Southport. This involves swimming a mile in an ice cold marine lake (made up of 90% boat fuel and 10% goose faeces), followed by a 40km bike ride and a 10km run (if still standing/conscious). If that doesn't sound difficult enough, Ed only learned to swim 8 weeks ago (James has been practising 'towing' Ed), the last time Jane did 10km on foot was on a pub crawl in Oswestry in 2004 and James is using his 3 year old daughter's bike (with Peppa Pig basket and streamers). To add to the fun, we can expect strong winds and rain - shipping forecast suggests we may be washed up in Belfast on Monday (apart from Ed, who'll be lucky to make it to the Isle of Mann).
We are hoping that our efforts will raise money to support the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute, based next to the Christie Hospital in Withington. The Institute's researchers work tirelessly to develop more effective and kinder treatments for cancer patients. Many of us will have been touched by cancer in one way or another, and have friends or family who have been treated or supported at Christies.
Those who live in Manchester will no doubt have seen the news reports of the devastating fire that hit the research facility in April. Although cancer research has been saved, it will take millions of pounds to rebuild the facility and to replace lost equipment.
Thank you for helping to support this vital facility.
