Story
I am doing a charity wing walk to raise funds for the Bournemouth Hospital Diabetes and Endocrine Centre.
Type1 Diabetes is a serious lifelong auto immune disease that prevents those who suffer from it from producing insulin, the vast majority of people get diagnosed under the age of 18. Insulin is needed to live therefore children and adults with Type 1 diabetes regularly need to inject insulin, which can be 8+ times a day. Scientists are not 100% sure what causes type 1 diabetes but it is not lifestyle or diet related. Type1 diabetes is a difficult condition to manage on a day to day basis effecting many aspects of life and unfortunately over time damages your heart, kidneys and eyes.
With no known cure for Type 1 Diabetes, support is needed for patients to manage the physical and psychological demands that it puts on their lives. Bournemouth Diabetes centre is an incredible and essential resource for the patients and families of those living with Diabetes in Dorset. In addition to the medical care, BDEC provide amazing and essential practical support and training to help people manage their condition, along with essential psychological support.
I have chosen to do a wing walk which will be at heights over 1,000ft and speeds up to 140mph (well out of my comfort zone 🫣😬) to raise funds for BDEC and their amazing services that help so many peoples lives, they have certainly helped me.
Thank you so much for sponsoring me, it really does mean so much to me and will help so many.
