Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Centrepoint houses and supports around 800 homeless young people between the ages of 16 and 25 every night. As a volunteer counsellor for Childline I am very aware of the number of vulnerable young people who run away from often intolerable home lives into a dangerous life on the streets.
Over the past five years, hundreds of Centrepoint supporters have given up their bed for the night and taken part in the Sleep Out. This year's event is at Old Spitalfields Market on the 11th of November 2010 where I will be one of 450 Sleepers showing solidarity with some of the most marginalised people in society.
This event does not re-create homelessness, it is not a tough physical challenge, and there are no risks with our personal safety. I know from last year that it is an uncomfortable way to spend a working night and actually sleeping is very difficult with the lights and the noise and the discomfort. My aim is to raise much needed funds for Centrepoint. We are given cardboard to lie on and are able to take along our sleeping bags - many homeless people are not so lucky. We are also in a large group and even then you feel vulnerable sleeping outside - imagine sleeping on your own in a doorway! Read Sam's story now http://www.centrepoint.org.uk/sleepout/sams-story
