Story
I’m cycling 460km from London to Paris with the UCLH team, to raise money for their new NHS Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) Unit and Specialist Blood Cancer Centre, which will open in 2020.
PBT is a form of advanced radiotherapy, for children and adults with complex and hard-to-treat cancers. It is considered safer and more effective than conventional radiation treatment, because it can deliver a high dose of radiation to a very specific area, with minimal impact on surrounding, healthy cells. UCLH will be one of only two centres in the UK offering this life saving and life changing treatment.
My Godfather, Charles, and his colleagues have been working tirelessly to construct the 11 storey building, that will house the PBT unit and Specialist Blood Cancer Centre. Ideally located in central London just moments away from UCLH tower and the Macmillan Cancer Centre, the state-of-the-art building is connected to the nearby hospitals by a ‘corridor of excellence’.
Our cycle is to celebrate the near completion of this major project. The funds raised will go towards enhancing and improving the environment and equipment for patients.
Please help and be part of this amazing cause, and help patients in their cancer recovery. Thank you.
