About the walk
The walk is an outdoor challenge lasting about 90 minutes over the roof of The O2. It is a high level fabric walkway at 52m above the ground. This will be a personal challenge for some of those members taking part due to the height and isn't for the faint hearted and will require you to be physically and medically fit.
Why we doing it
Jane Peak is a dear friend and ex work colleague to many in John Lewis Oxford Street. She was diagnosed with a grade 4 glyoblastoma brain tumour in July 2011. She has undergone surgery, radiotherapy, chemo therapy and a trial drug, she has remained positive and spirited throughout, using her wicked sense of humour to relieve the pressure and make people laugh.
So many who know her say what an inspiration she has been to them by the way in which she has dealt with everything that has been thrown at her.
Her condition is terminal but the fight goes on.
St Francis Hospice have been a godsend, they have been supportive and helpful at every turn. When Jane tried to get help she said it always felt like a battle but not with the Hospice - her words were ‘they have really really helped me.’
She used to go once a week to their day care centre and was asked by them to share her experience from diagnosis to present day with a group of new Doctors - little did they know how honest and up front she would be!! The experience was cathartic for her as well.
The Hospice have supplied all the little things that make life easier and help her to make the adjustments needed, along with carer support and specialist equipment like wheelchair and hospital bed.
Her old team in Resource Management have booked to do the 02 climb on 28th Sept 2012 to raise as much money as possible for the Hospice who are treating her so well and rely on donations and fund-raising to keep going.
