Story
It's now two years since my father Peter Padmore passed away aged 79, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, Alzheimers, Dementia and Parkinsons.
There is no cure for Alzheimers, Dementia or Parkinsons.
Current treatment options to slowdown the symptoms for people suffering from ADP, range from drugs that help to boost the chemicals in the brain that pass on messages, to alternative therapies and counselling that help people to come to terms with the condition and its implications.
For people diagnosed with dementia there is no way to reverse the damage that has been sustained or to halt the progress of the disease. Treatment plans focus on trying to slow down progression of the disease, coming to terms with the diagnosis and putting personalised plans for care in place. There is a real need to find a cure for this life-changing and life-limiting condition. At Nottingham Trent University they have the unique opportunity to bring together a multi-disciplinary team of medical specialists and research experts to explore new and innovative methods to bring about change in the prognosis of these destructive diseases.
Born and brought up in Nottingham, my dad was passionate about the area he came from and so it seemed a fitting connection to support the excellent team at Nottingham Trent University with their research into cures for ADP.
So, on Saturday 24th September 2022, I'll be taking on the Chiltern 50k Challenge to raise money for this very important cause, supporting funding for this critically important research work. Please donate if you can !
