Story

Emily is my 13 year old daughter and she suffers from Autism and severe learning disabilities aswell as Epilepsy and blindness in one eye. Her brain did not develop properly causing these conditions. Emily cannot read or write or speak properly. She often self harms by biting and scratching and shouts out words repeatedly( not all nice ones!). Emily does not socialise well, she does not like hugs and likes to be on her own and play. She currently is into fire engines and loves Fireman Sam. Her favourite things include beads and brushing her dolls hair. She is sensitive to certain noises and smells everything…our lives are set by routine as that is what makes Emily happy. Emily cannot cope with things that we take for granted…like going shopping, having a thread on her clothes or even children crying. Family life is hindered as we cannot go and enjoy things the same because we get stared at when Emily makes noises or burps as she has no social awareness. Emily loves music and dancing and has her own favourite songs and can amazingly remember the words.

So this run is for raising funds for other sufferers and their families and hoping people understand more about Autism…Emily is not a naughty child and does not deserve nasty comments. Emily is beautiful and funny and special to me. x
