Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am basically lazy when it comes to physical challenges, but on 20th September I will abseil 100ft off the top the John Radcliffe Hospital.
Why?
Because the JR is a truly amazing place, working to save the lives of critically ill children every day. The JR gives parents their children back, and changes futures forever.
Several months ago my 11 year old son, Nathaniel, was placed on life support in a coma at the paediatric intensive care unit at the JR to be treated for meningococcal meningitis and septicaemia. He was so ill with swelling on his brain that we had no guarantee he'd make it through the first few nights. And if he survived, we did not know if he would ever walk or talk or see or hear again. But over 5 days the JR team worked around the clock to save not just his life, but his arms and legs, his sight, his hearing. Best of all they saved his amazingly clever brain and his cheeky grin. Now every day when we hear Nathaniel laugh again we are grateful that this world class hospital exists. These past months have been the most difficult days of our lives but the expertise Nathaniel got from the JR means we get to enjoy seeing him walk, run, jump again! This is a priceless gift.
Meningitis tried to steal our child .... JR gave us Nathaniel back. But no amount of saying 'thank you' will equip the JR to save more children's lives. The technology involved costs >£10,000 for just 5 days. That is why I am abseiling to fundraise for the Children's Hospital at JR. All donations most gratefully received!
