Crohns Disease is an extremely debilitating condition that goes largely unknown and isn’t talked about. This is often due to the embarrassment felt due to the nature of the condition. Having Crohns Disease is so much more than needing to use the toilet more often than others. It often consumes sufferers every waking hour- from dealing with intense pain, extreme fatigue and the complex planning that is needed to plan outings, meal times etc. Apart from the physical problems there is often considerable mental torment that they do their best to hide - even the closest loved ones may not be fully aware of the impact this condition has on their whole life. All this while working and being a partner, parent etc.
My son was diagnosed with Crohns Disease as a teenager and he has just undergone a major 8 hour operation to remove a badly diseased section of his bowel. It upsets me to think that he has had to undergo this but I remain optimistic that it will help him get on with his life. It is for that reason that I have decided to run the Royal Parks half marathon to raise funds for Crohns and Colitis UK so that they may be able to continue with their support to sufferers and the all important research to try to find improved treatments for people diagnosed in the future. Please give as generously as you can and let’s help raise awareness as well as funds. Thank you all.
