Story
Last year Jane was lucky enough to run the London Marathon to support this great cause and in memory of the lovely Laura Bagnall (Mum, running mentor, work colleague and friend) who’s life was cut short by lung cancer. Laura was a real inspiration to many.
In doing that I also learned about this super little charity. Many charities are struggling because Covid has shut shops and stopped fund raising through many events. The ‘Roys Runners’ are ploughing on through a series of virtual runs through the decades and I have persuaded my running buddy Ian to join me on the journey. We will run 10k for each decade And if we reach our fundraising target - we will up that to a half marathon!!! Go on - donate and make us run further!!!
Here’s a bit more about the charity we are supporting
Back in 1990 when the charity was established, we were the first UK charity solely dedicated to lung cancer and, 30 years on, we remain the only UK charity solely dedicated in supporting everyone affected by the disease.Over the past 30 years together we have: Funded over £30 million in lung cancer research Lay the groundwork for lung cancer screening Funded the first ever lung cancer nurse specialist Performed the first ever lung cancer keyhole surgery Helped thousands of people to stop smoking Funded and built the first lung cancer research centre in the UK Campaigned for life-lengthening treatments Raised awareness of lung cancer, challenged the misconceptions around the disease and improved attitudes Provided emotional, practical and financial support for thousands and thousands of people diagnosed and living with lung cancer. But there is still so much more to do and we need support too.
