Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Shell and I are taking part in the Great North Swim to raise money for Brain Tumour Research. The reason is that a colleague of mine died of a rare form cancer that manifested itself in his spine and spread to his brain.  He was a very dedicated and talented Police Special Constable and truely one of the bravest young men I has ever known.  Please take time to read the following link http://www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk/Volunteer-cop-Marc-Thompson-26-loses-brave-cancer/story-17014650-detail/story.html#axzz2TIerlOgj

The swim is in open water over one mile in Lake Windermere.  To some this might not sound a very long way, however to put it into some perspective, it is the equivalent of approximately 80 lengths of a standard pool, without stopping  and in extremely cold conditions.

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease. We are a leading voice calling for support and action for research into what is called the last battleground against cancer.
