Story
Hi,
This year I've decided to raise money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation focuses on the early detection and treatment of cancer. Cancers often spread to different parts of the body from the place they first occur so localised treatments, like surgery and radiotherapy, can have limited success. However, anti-cancer drugs circulate to all parts of the body and clinical trials of these treatments are the main focus of funding from Sir Bobby's charity.
I've chosen this charity because my gramps died from this horrible disease four weeks ago. The cancer was only diagnosed the day he died; devastatingly it had spread and was at the most advanced stage. We were all so shocked but my gramps received exceptional care within the Freeman hospital's Critical Care Unit during the short time he spent there. By running for this charity I hope to help those who are diagnosed earlier.
Those who know me well will also know how much my gramps meant to me and this is why this year's Great North Run (my third) is also going to be my hardest - emotionally and most likely physically... this is the latest I've ever started training, but I'm determined!
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
