Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page
Difficult writing about my self but here goes. Back in November 2011 I was extremely lucky to have a heart transplant. The Gift of Life.
After being poorly for many years, and deteriorating fast in the 12 months before my transplant and being "bluelighted" on loads of occasions and staying in CCU for may weeks on end after my defibs firing off.
In April 2011 after a gruelling transplant assessment I was lucky to be placed on the Heart Transplant waiting list at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. After a false alarm call I really thought that my sell by date had expired as by September I was getting house bound, and felt that I had my chance of a heart but sadley it was not able to be used.
Then, in November 2011 I received that call, at 1.25am, a heart had got my name on it and could I get to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital as soon as possible. My bag was packed ready to leave, just sat there on the landing, but I needed to find my lucky knickers!. Of all the days you need them today is the day.
On route on the M5 breaking the speed limit to the QE I received 3 more calls from the QE wanting to know my estimated time of arrival. At time I thought I better mention where I had hid my money!
On route to the QE I still hadn't located my 24 year son, who always has his phone in his hand until I ring! By the time I had got to go into theatre there was still no contact with him! But I always said if your wasnt there when I went into theatre you had better be there when I wake up!!! The operation
Its not an easy journey but was made a whole lot easier by being guided by the amazing team in Heart & Lung Transplant Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The transplant team are a dedicated team that are there for you every second of the journey, who now are some of my closest friends.
I am now organising the Jan Lockett Heart Transplant Golf Tournement on 23rd/24th May at my local Golf Club. (not that I play). to raise funds to assist with the running costs of the "Heart in a box" to enable hearts to be harvested from further a field. Enabling hearts to be used that would not be considered. If you fancy playing in the golf tournament or helping, or if your a business that would like to sponsor a golf tee please message me.
To pay back for this wonderful gift I promote the Organ Donor arround the country talking about my transplant journey and encouraging many to sign the Register.
I apricate not everyone plays golf, likes golf, or is available on the tournament dates by you can donate you pounds how ever small or large to this amazing Hospital that has saved so many lives and will continue to save lives.
