I completed a Tandem skydive to raise money for
The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery Development Foundation.

Read my story and reasons for choosing this charity.

After suffering for years with severe headaches, blackouts, hearing and visual disturbances,it was a CT scan in November 2007 that diagnosed I had a Colloid Cyst of the third Ventricle.

Colloid cysts of the third ventricle are a rare cause of headaches, that if left untreated will lead to sudden death. Approximately three people per million per year are affected by this entity.

Within two days of having the CT scan I was transported to the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London.
At the time when I was told that they had found a cyst in the centre of my brain I was just so grateful that finally I knew what was wrong with me. I think the doctors had almost given up trying to find out the cause and just told me I suffered with Migraines. I never realised the seriousness of it all until weeks after my surgery.

I cannot thank the support and kindness of the staff at the National Hospital through what was a REALLY tough time for myself and my family. Seven days after having my first operation I developed a CF leak (the fluid surrounding the brain). I underwent a second operation in which they placed a titanium plate in my skull to ensure no more leaks!
Dr McEvoy and his team did an amazing job of looking after me. Nothing was ever too much trouble, I was given the best care you could have asked for.

I am dedicating this jump to Janet, a lovely lady I met on my ward. Janet made my stay at the hospital less scarey and boring! Sadly Janet is no longer with us so I am dedicating this Jump to her, a kind and giving lady who never failed to make me smile and laugh despite having her own illness that she was battling with.

I am making this jump to raise money for the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery Development Foundation as my way of thanking them for their round the clock care and support. It is because of fundraising that they are able to continue their amazing work and research into brain disorders.

I really appreciate any funds that are donated,
Thank you so much for supporting me, Jan x
