Story
Hey everyone! Hope you're all doing great. :)
So if some of you didn't know, I'm currently studying at Loughborough University and LSU Rag have given me this amazing opportunity to tick off one of my most anticipated bucket list challenges: a skydive. Yes, you've read that right, in May 2021 I will be jumping out of a plane at just under 14,000ft, reaching speeds of up to 120mph. Some of you may be thinking "Jamie, you're crazy", and although you're correct, I'm doing this skydive for so much more than you may first think.
This skydive is in memory of my late Grandad, Christopher Hughes, who sadly lost his battle with a stroke in the Summer of 2017. As many of you know, Chris was as 'fit as a fiddle'. He went to the gym more times a week than me, took me to have a net at my local cricket club (#Salop #OTF) regularly and was always doing something in the garden, so his passing was not only a shock and devastating to us all, but it also highlighted how deadly a stroke can be to anyone.
Together we raised more than £250 for my individual NCS fundraiser back in 2018 which, added to my other teammates sums, amounted to over £1,200 for the Shrewsbury and Telford Stroke Association. I can't thank you all enough for this. However, this is now another opportunity for you to research into the Stroke Association, another opportunity for us to raise money for a worthy charity and another way for me to say thank you to my Grandad for what he did for me over my lifetime.
That's about it from me for this fundraiser. If you would like to sponsor me and help me reach my £500 goal, that would mean the world. However, all I ask is for you to do is learn the acronym 'FAST' (Face, Arms, Speech, Time), become more informed about strokes / the Stroke Association and remember, together, we can #ConquerStroke.
Stay safe and I'll see you all soon.
Jamie
