Story
Hey guys,
As most of you know, Ocean Conservation has been at the heart of what we were doing with Dive Respect Protect and was a fantastic way to try and engage and give back to the preservation of the incredible environments.
Like a lot of people, 2020/21 has drastically changed plans and what is possible and has very much seen my ability to be actively involved in projects limited. On the flip side of the coin, a lot of charities/NGO's and other projects have been left to fend for themselves with lots of incredibly valuable work still to do.
As my contribution, I'm aiming to run over 200K in June this year, I've worked out the path of least resistance will be to do a route of 4.13 miles every day for 30 days continuously. The distance will contribute to the efforts of all the fundraisers to travel the equivalent distance to the Azores from the UK HQ.
Having been lucky enough to dive around many parts of Indonesia and the Maldives and having had a number of incredible encounters with manta rays - they really are such a special species to be in the water and interact with. The work that the Manta trust has been invaluable to add more citizen science, enforcement and documenting of manta aggregations across our oceans. This work has led to new legislation being passed in certain countries affording more protections to this vulnerable species.
If anyone facies contributing towards this cause with the thought of me pounding the pavement (during our third lockdown -lols) then it would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers
Jamie
