I found it really hard to hear that women and birthing people can be in a labour ward on their own - with no one to help them through the challenging process of birth or come and visit the arrival of their wee baby.

That's why when I learned about the amazing work that Amma Birth Companion's does - training volunteers to be there when people need them, and putting on classes/groups to help people learn from someone friendly about the practical realities of parenting - I had to help them.

All of the work that Amma Birth Companions does is trauma informed and culturally competent support to women and birthing people in a way that puts their dignity and wellbeing at the centre.
