Story

Hi folks, welcome to my Diabetes UK fundraising page.  In order to raise vital funds for the charity, I did a 300ft bungee jump at Bray, near Windsor, on Saturday 23rd April 2011 - check out the two videos of my jump using the links below:

Why Diabetes UK you ask?  Well as some of you may know, my wife Gillian has Type 1 diabetes and has done since the age of 6.  This means that she has to inject herself with insulin four times a day, every day, and will almost certainly have to do this for the rest of her life.  The potential complications associated with diabetes mean Gillian has to go for several hospital checkups every year to monitor things like her eyes, heart, kidneys, nerves and feet.  Major complications such as blindness and amputation are a very real possibility in later life, so she has to maintain a very careful lifestyle to try and hold back these complications.

There's nothing that can be done to prevent this type of diabetes and currently nothing to cure it.  Diabetes UK's mission is to improve the lives of people with the condition and to work towards a future without the diabetes.  They're the largest organisation in the UK working for people with diabetes, funding research, campaigning and helping people live with the condition (yes I've nicked this sentence from their website!).  Being a charity, they obviously rely heavily on donations and fundraising - that's where my bungee jump comes in.

So please donate whatever you can afford - every penny counts.

Thanks,
Jamie
