Story
I’m not what you’d call a regular excerciser, and for the past two years have spent even less time on my feet, thanks to the new-found joy of home-working.
I’ve also never really raised money for charity – unless you count sponsoring other people to do ridiculous things.
However, all that will change on 3 September 2022, when I’ll be taking part in the 57km South Coast Challenge. And I need your help.
Last year my good friend Simon lost his daughter to cancer, shortly after her 15th birthday.
Throughout her treatment, Lola showed tremendous courage, supported every step of the way by her loving family, who in turn were supported by our wonderful NHS and other organisations including Young Lives vs Cancer.
I’ll be walking from Eastbourne to Hove with Simon (and two other friends, Marc and John) to help others in the same situation and are in need of the help that charities such as Young Lives vs Cancer provide.
Our team name is “Walking with Dinosaurs”, which has more to do with our age that our ferocious nature.
Having completed several 10K training walks (check out the gallery for evidence), we fully appreciate that 57km is no mere stroll along the South Downs Way (it’s over 35 miles!). We’ve estimated that’ll it’ll take us over 12 hours to complete. I’m beginning to get cold feet just thinking about it. But that’s not an option.
So please sponsor me. That way, we can raise some money for Young Lives vs Cancer, pay tribute to a beautiful life cut tragically short, and show some love for Simon’s family.
