Jamie Dunkley takes on Everesting for RSBC

London Marathon 2021 · 3 October 2021 ·
Hi everyone! Thank you for visiting my page.
This page was originally created as I was running the London Marathon earlier this year, however as the event didn't take place in April for obvious reasons, so therefore I am taking on the Everesting challenge instead!
The challenge is to cycle up Box Hill in Surrey a total of 59 times in order to reach the height of Mount Everest (8,848m) in a single activity and without sleep.
I am raising funds and awareness for the Royal Society of Blind Children. I firmly believe no child in the UK should grow up to be poor or
lonely just because they are blind. However, 90% of those who lose their sight in youth won’t work for more than six months in their lives and most will never have someone to share their life with.
On a personal note, my girlfriend's nephew, Freddie, is 8
years’ old and was born with bilateral congenital glaucoma and has been under Hospital care since he was 3 months old. Childhood glaucoma is a rare eye disease and significant cause of childhood blindness. It is caused by disease related abnormal increase in pressure in the eye - affecting the optic nerve. It occurs in about 1 in 10,000 children. He has had 9 surgeries and a number of different eye medications to manage his glaucoma. As a result of some
of his medication Freddie has developed cataracts and also adrenal suppression. He has also developed an extreme fear of anything medical which has in turn impacted on his day to day life.
By donating today, you can help make sure every single blind
child, including Freddie, regain the self-belief and skills to fulfil the
potential we know they’ve got.
Any donation, however big or small, will be hugely
appreciated.
Thank you.
