Every 3 minutes someone in the UK dies from a heart or circulatory disease and every 5 minutes someone is admitted to hospital due to a stroke. 

It’s estimated that in the UK more than half of us will get a heart or circulatory condition in our lifetime. Life is so incredibly precious and there have been a few instances which have reminded me of this recently, seeing a man go into cardiac arrest in front of my girlfriend and daughter was frightening, it made me think it could happen at anytime or moment. 

My girlfriends Grandad, Dad to 4, Grandad to 12 and Great Grandad to 10 is a very healthy 85 year old, who has been lucky enough to be able to play 18 holes of golf several times a week, recently had a heart scare and had to have a valve replaced. Without the incredible research and science done by the British Heart Foundation his surgery might not have been possible.

My next door neighbour, suddenly dying from a heart failure a day before his own daughters wedding. Absolute heartbreaking for her. But also for us as neighbours as have known them for years. 

Since the British Heart Foundation was established the annual number of deaths from heart and circulatory diseases in the UK has fallen by around half which is incredible. I want to help them continue to be able to reduce that number and try and stop the sadness people experience in situations like these. The money raised through the London Marathon will be funnelled into ground breaking science and support for the people who need it the most.
