Fundraising for Anthony Nolan
Story
I am fundraising for Anthony Nolan blood cancer charity.
I will be running in the Great Manchester 10k on the 28th May and the Great North Run on the 10th September.
Unfortunately a very close friend of mine is in need of a bone marrow transplant and is currently on the waiting list.
I am hoping to raise two things;
1). Funds:
The charity can't function without funding from generous members of the public. It costs the charity 60 pounds to add each person to the bone marrow register. The more funds the charity can obtain, the more people can be added to the register and potentially save a lot more lives.
2). Awareness:
Everyone has heard the slogan "Do something amazing: Give blood".
However people are less aware of the bone marrow and stem cell donation campaigns.
Also people may think that the donation is a painful procedure, however 90% of donations are done via stem cells from the donors bloodstream.
Anthony Nolan are recruiting people preferably between the age of 16-30 who are over 7st (50kg) and in good health. They will send a free "spit kit" through the post which you will provide a saliva sample. That's it. Spit in a tube, send it back and you'll be added to the register, along with 600,000 amazing potential live savers.

Every day, Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with a blood cancer or blood disorder. They do this by matching incredible individuals willing to donate their stem cells, to people who desperately need a lifesaving transplant.
