Story
A close friend of mine's younger brother (James) suffered an accident whilst playing rugby in April 2021 for Stade Niçois in the French National League. James dislocated his C3/C4 cervical joint and immediately sustained life changing injuries that would change the life James was due to live. Facing paralysis, James has a marathon recovery ahead of him that will require determination, resilience, support and a great sense of humour.
With that, I have entered an Ironman Triathlon to complete a personal challenge but to also raise money to support James' fight and for others facing similar, life changing injuries. By no means comparable, the Ironman Triathlon (2.2 mile swim, 108 mile bike, 26.4 mile run) is brutal and no doubt requires some determination, resilience and a sense of humour that lasts to the 26th mile of the run! Any donations are greatly received and go a huge way to providing the continued essential support for James and others who are in similar situations.
The Matt Hampson foundation have supported James throughout his fight, providing advice, guidance, lived experiences and inspiration as he recovers, whilst also supporting his recovery at the Royal Buckinghamshire hospital. More generally, the Matt Hampson Foundation inspires and supports young people seriously injured through sport through its Get Busy Living Centre in rural Leicestershire. The centre provides expert physiotherapy, specialist personal training, support, mentoring and advice to people suffering a life changing injury.
