Story
Hello hello, I am Running, again (and asking for money, again) so apologies in advance! I will be running the London Marathon in April in support of Prevent Breast Cancer.
It’s only the one marathon this time which is fortunate for all of us as it means third of the distance for me and a third of the donation for you! (Of course there is absolutely no pressure to donate at all!)
As many of you will know breast cancer has unfortunately featured significantly in my family’s life - in 2016 my Mum, Sarah, was diagnosed. The news was heart-breaking, shocking and terrifying all at the same time. Fortunately, thanks to the expert treatment received Mum made a full recovery following a number of treatments and surgeries - whilst this wasn't easy to go through we all felt very lucky that mum was all okay.
Fast forward 3 years and breast cancer came knocking again. This time it was my sister, Becky. Only 25 and about to embark on her dream job, the news rocked us and was no easier to deal with a second time round. Thankfully it was caught very early and following treatment Becky was able to return to work impressively quickly and get back to protecting the mean streets of Plymouth.
Although a very unfortunate and rubbish situation to find ourselves in, we felt lucky with the outcome. This was only possible due to the amazing care and treatment that they received from the NHS. It was, however, an incredibly tough time for all of us and I can’t even imagine what it was like for Mum and Becks to go through it all whilst remaining incredibly strong and resilient.
I‘ve decided to run for Prevent Breast cancer as it is the only charity in the UK dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer. Unlike many cancer charities, they focus on preventing, rather than curing. By promoting early diagnosis, screening and lifestyle changes we can stop the problem before it starts.
