Story
On Saturday 11 January I attempted the toughest ultra-marathon in the UK - running 145 miles non-stop along the Grand Union Canal, from Birmingham’s Gas Street Canal Basin to Venice in London.
Sadly, I had to stop the attempt at 90 miles after my support vehicle broke down. It was disappointing, especially as the challenge was to raise as much money as possible for the Save Acorns Black Country Hospice Appeal. Which is why I'm going to finish the distance this Sunday 2 February.
When I set my mind to something, I have to do it! So I'll be setting off from Birmingham early on Sunday morning to complete the unfinished 55 miles.
Acorns hospice in the Black Country is a place my wife Gemma and I know very well. A child very close to our hearts used this amazing service. We know first hand what Acorns provides. For 233 families – many with nowhere else to turn – Acorns is a lifeline. Without it they’d be lost. Life’s challenges would be intense, and in some cases too much to bear.
The hospice needs to reach the £2 million appeal target to guarantee the future of its service for all the children and families who need their support. The Appeal is going brilliantly so far, with over £500, 000 donated in just over six months.
If you’re reading this and feel inspired – please donate and help me raise as much money as possible from this appeal.
