Story
In June 2012, our great friend Jim Monks passed away in untimely fashion. A capable and talented rugby player, a loving husband, a great work colleague who was instrumental in the success of the London Fire Brigade Olympic Project and was the officer responsible for coordinating responses of other Fire and Rescue Services in the UK. Jim distinguished himself as a rugby player starting his playing career with Sandown RFC on the Isle of Wight before playing with Vigo RFC in Kent and finishing his playing career with Sevenoaks RFC. In that time he proved to be a great leader and never shirked a challenge. He moved into coaching on conclusion of his playing career and coached at many levels including Sevenoaks youths, Vigo Seniors, Essex under age, Kent Ladies and Gravesend 2nds.
Jim managed his hectic professional and rugby life whilst being a loving husband to Lori, loving son, brother, uncle, relative and friend to all those who were fortunate enough to know him. He worked tirelessly throughout his life and yet found time to patron many charities and donated his time, energy and finances to contributing to those charities closest to his heart.
As such, we, his friends and former playing colleagues are organising a charity rugby day at Vigo rugby club in his honour, with all monies raised going to the Anthony Nolan Charity. The winning team will be presented by the James Monks Memorial trophy in an event which we would like to make an annual occurrence in the great mans memory.
Please donate as much as you can, no sum is too small as everything raised will be going to a worthwhile cause.
The matches will commence at 2 pm.
Entertainment for all the family will run until energy levels fade
