Story
Here's the TL;DR:
- I'm planning to run the North Downs Way 100 mile race on 7th August 2021;
- It is going to be really tough - but my Dad is enduring chemotherapy so this is nothing by comparison;
- It has been years since I've hit anyone up for sponsorship, so its time to cough up :-)
Most people reading this know that I like to run, so this event may not seem like much of a hardship... but this is way harder than anything I've attempted in the past, is going to take months of preparation, and there's a greater than zero chance I may not make it the whole way around. Yes, its a personal challenge I have been thinking about for a while, but it is also an opportunity to do something for a higher cause. The last thing in the world that I wanted was for that cause to get dropped in my lap when Dad was diagnosed with cancer last September, but since there is precious little I can do to directly aid his treatment at the moment, at least perhaps I can help make sure more and better treatments are available in the future.
Cancer Research UK is a phenomenal organisation which funds the development of cutting-edge treatments which can meaningfully extend and improve the lives of cancer patients. Please consider supporting their work so that more families can stay together for longer.
