Story
I'm taking part in a sponsored walk in memory of my dad who died last year from lung cancer. He was initially diagnosed in the February and underwent chemotherapy treatment in an attempt to fight the disease. Unfortunately by the time he was diagnosed, the disease had spread into his bones and there was no cure for him as is often the case with this form of cancer. He did enjoy about 6 months of relative good health (on and off) but once the disease properly took hold of him in August he suffered terribly which was extremely difficult and upsetting to be part of for all the family, especially my Mam who effectively became his full time carer.
It was during this very difficult time that the Butterwick Hospice became involved, providing him with palliative care to reduce as much as possible the suffering he was enduring. My dad spent increasingly more time there until finally he was in too bad a state of health to leave. It was in the Hospice that he died on 25th October 2011.
The treatment the Hospice gave my Dad and the help and support they gave to our family in these final two months of my Dad's life was priceless to us. The Hospice is a purely charitable company and as such needs regular donations to be able to continue providing the end of life care it does so well. So please help others who are going through this terrible ordeal by donating through my page.
Many thanks
