Story
This is the fundraising page for an amazing charity, Faith in Action Homelessness Project.
-------------------------------
James, our incredible husband and father, passed away in April. Of everyone we've ever met, Dad was the most vibrant, energetic and wise. Dad led a beautiful, charmed life and in turn felt a great responsibility to give back to those less fortunate - just as life was good to him, he was good to life.
Faith in Action is a local (Merton) charity which draws volunteers from across different faiths to help rough sleepers and vulnerably housed people (the "service users"). FiA's support to such people covers a wide range of activities, from provision of food, clothing and washing facilities to obtaining lost documents, such as passports, and to helping to obtain employment.
FiA sees obtaining employment as a key route to helping service users to gain housing: employment generates ongoing income with which to secure stable accommodation.
In 2018 FiA created a specialist post, called the New Opportunities Worker (NOW), to work solely on helping service users to obtain work. and in 2019, she helped 28 people to start work. An incredible achievement. FiA would now like to add another worker devoted to this activity.
Funds raised in Dad's memory will all go towards the cost of a new part-time member of the "New Opportunities" team, helping homeless people into employment; a vital and important part of the local community.
Dad was a long-term financial supporter of FiA, and we know that the ambition of helping people back into work as a route to providing some stability for fragile lives is something he would find an incredibly worthwhile, challenging and rewarding activity.
Thank you for your support.
